It is owned by Vici Properties and operated by Century Casinos. It is notable for being the first race track in the United States to get slot machines and become a racino.
We want to say thank you! We are very pleased with how our Phase 1 reopening plan has gone and we are continuing to move towards the full service resort that all of you have grown to love over the years. As always, the health and safety of everyone is our top priority and we will continue to operate our facility in accordance with all local, state and national health and hygiene protocols and mandates. Below are the guidelines being followed along with amenities that are currently offered.
*Adjusted casino hours will be 10am-2am daily.
*There is one entrance for guests, The Grande Hotel entrance, which is monitored by our security staff to ensure safety and proper social distancing.
*All guests and team members will be required to have non-invasive temperature checks as they enter the facility. Anyone presenting a temperature at/over 100.4 degrees will not be permitted to enter the facility.
*As ordered by the State of West Virginia, all team members and guests will be required to wear a face mask.
*The casino will operate at 50% occupancy of total floor capacity.
*Effective immediately, smoking is permitted on the second level gaming floor of our casino. Guests must continue to wear a mask unless actively eating, drinking or smoking. As a reminder all other areas of Mountaineer remain nonsmoking. This policy will be strictly enforced.
*Slot machines and Table Games will be arranged to allow for proper social distancing, as defined by the Governor’s office reopening guidelines.
Mountaineer Casino will continue to follow CDC and local/state health guidelines for sanitizing and cleaning procedures.
*The casino will be deep cleaned and disinfected nightly when we are closed.
*Signage is displayed throughout the casino and the entire property regarding social distancing and health and hygiene. For guests as well as team members.
*We have installed plexiglass shields to offer protection and ensure distancing for guests and team members throughout the property.
*We have installed additional hand sanitizer dispensers throughout the entire property.
*Our staff will be cleaning and disinfecting high traffic areas and contact points more regularly throughout the day.
*All team members will receive training on COVID-19 safety protocols.

We often don’t think of West Virginia as a mini Las Vegas but little do many of us know at its northern tip in the town of New Cumberland lies the famous Mountaineer Casino, Racetrack, and Resort. And yes, the casino is often buzzing day and night, making it the ultimate destination if you’re passing through.
So, where is this somewhat secluded casino? Right on the Ohio-West Virginia border and about 40 miles northwest of good old Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. So, if you’re traveling through the Upper Ohio Valley and casino gaming is your thing, be sure to check out West Virginia gambling at Mountaineer.

The property has contributed its own part of US gambling history. Planning for a racetrack up in Chester can be traced all the way back to 1937 and was to be called Waterford Downs. While the public offering was approved in 1939, but because of several unfortunate events (including World War II), it was delayed until 1948.
Opening day for the racetrack known as Waterford Park wouldn’t occur until 1951.
James F. Edwards bought the track in the mid-1950s and in 1969, Ogden Corporation bought Edwards’ holdings.In 1987, Bill Blair purchased the track and renamed it Mountaineer Park before selling to Excalibur Holding in 1992. In 1994, the track incorporated its first slot machines. Table gaming was added in 2007.
In 2019, the casino was sold to Century Casinos and Vici Properties, with Century taking the operating business and Vici taking the land and buildings while entering a leasing agreement with Century.

This means that when you gain chips, you can expect the other players to be generally gaining chips as well; and when the dealer is running over you, chances are that the other players at your table won’t be faring much better.
This concept led to the discovery that one very effective strategy in blackjack tournaments was simply to do the opposite of what the rest of the table was doing. For instance, if the rest of the table is making small, conservative wagers, this strategy suggests that you should make large wagers instead. This works because, in general, the players making bets of similar sizes will end up with a similar number of chips. Meanwhile, you – as the only player at the table trying something different – will likely find yourself with a very different amount of chips. This might put you in first place, or it might put you in last, depending on how the dealer treats you. But having a 50/50 shot at first at a table of five or six players is a pretty good deal.
These days, blackjack tournament strategy has evolved to the point where these easily exploitable tables are less common, which means more advanced strategy is required. Most good players will generally bet small, but look for some good spots to make larger bets, especially when they can act last and see what their opponents are doing first. When in the lead, players often switch to bets of moderate size (especially when acting early), so that their opponents can’t get the full benefit of playing in an “opposite” manner. As round progresses, it also becomes important to calculate just how much you’ll need to bet to get yourself into a position to advance, without risking so much that you won’t have later opportunities should you lose a given hand.
Blackjack tournament strategy eventually comes down to a balancing act: you must take enough risks to win, but only when the rewards are big enough to justify taking those risks.
